The Highland Heights Police Department provides 24-hour operations to the public by receiving calls and requests for services through our Communications Center. The Communications Center maintains emergency, non-emergency and TDD (hearing impaired) telephone lines for both police and Fire Departments to facilitate easy and quick contact for all citizens within the city. Our Department's mission is to create an atmosphere to preserve the safety and security of the community by providing quality police service in a fair and impartial manner. We believe this can be accomplished by interacting and responding to community needs, emphasizing integrity and professionalism. To accomplish our mission the Police Department employs twenty-two police officers who provide continuous 24-hour patrol coverage. Officers respond to all requests for police service, criminal law enforcement, traffic enforcement, and the preservation of peace throughout the city. In addition, detectives are on call twenty-four hours to respond to criminal investigations and serious crimes. Our department also operates and maintains a five-day jail facility located in the Police Department building. The Police Department provides a number of safety services for our community, and below is a listing of programs offered. If any of these programs would be of interest to you, or you require assistance for any reason, please call our non-emergency phone number at 440-442-8825. Our dispatchers will assist you and if necessary direct your call to the appropriate party to help you. Care Call Program - Specifically designed for our senior citizens and other qualifying residents who may be living alone, the Police Department places phone calls to program participants to check on their welfare. Information on social service agencies is also available upon request. Additional calls can be placed more often as each individual's needs require. Each call is confidential, available around the clock, and is placed at times selected by the resident. Participants receive special attention during power outages and other emergencies. This is an excellent program for family or neighbors who live alone. Residential and Business Security Survey - This is a free service providing safety and security to assist residents and businesses in protecting their dwellings from intrusion. The survey includes an inspection of the exterior and interior of the premises. Experienced crime prevention police officers provide this service, which includes a comprehensive inspection, and provide participants with a copy of their findings and suggestions to make your home or business more secure. Alarm Board - The City installed an alarm board in the Police Communications Center that provides alarm monitoring for our residents and businesses. If you already have a fire and/or intrusion security system in your home, you can now have the alarm directly connected into the Police Department, which is monitored 24 hours, 7 days a week. The cost is $120.00 per year to the company that owns the alarm board and $60.00 per year payable to the City. There is also a one-time installation fee of $120.00. Bicycle Patrol - This program provides more accessibility to our officers for residents in our City Park and on our streets during the warmer months. The Bicycle Patrol is designed to give a more detailed patrol of commercial areas as well as residential side streets and the City Park. When you see officers on the bicycles, feel free to stop and talk to them. Juvenile Diversion Program - A joint effort with Mayfield High School, Mayfield Village and Mayfield Heights to provide an alternative to route first time youth offenders away from formal adjudication by addressing problems that led to the behavior. The Juvenile Diversion Program is designed to help rehabilitate and decrease the numbers of repeat offenders and to keep youths out of the Juvenile Justice System. Police officers, schools and parents work together to help juvenile participants become responsible and productive youths. |
