KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE!
CAR SEATS

Are you aware that:
  1. an infant must stay rear facing until they are 1 year of age and at least 20 pounds;
  2. that cars manufactured after 2000 have a tether point which when used adds additional protection;
  3. that a child 4-8 years old (approximately 40-80 pounds) still requires a booster car seat for correct lap/shoulder belt fit.

The City of Highland Heights wants to make sure that children are safe while riding in vehicles.  Five Highland Heights Fire Fighters have been certified through a Greater Cleveland Safe Kids Child Passenger Restraint Program to check car seat installations.

To make an appointment to have a child car seat checked, please call the Fire Department at 442-7406, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

BIKE HELMETS

Please make sure children and adults who enjoy bike and scooter sports have a helmet that fits well.

It is extremely important to wear a fitted helmet while riding.

If the helmet is too loose, pushed back off of the forehead, or tilted to one side, protection of the head is drastically reduced.

Greater Cleveland Safe Kids has trained Judy Dick to fit helmets to ensure maximum safety and to provide the helmets along with Bell, Inc. at the low cost of $8.00.

Call Judy at 461-2440 from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday for more information about bike helmets or for an appointment for proper fitting.
